Week 10 - MKTG 3349 - Ad Rank

This week I read about Ad Rank and Ad Position. An Ad rank is simply the value that is used to determine ones advertisements position. How it calculates the score is through your bid amount, the quality score of the ad, and the extensions that are being used. The article posted mentions that Ad position is the order of your ad in the auction results as compared to other ads. Your ad rank is being recalculated every time its' able to appear on auctions. What this does is it allows your ad to move up in the ranks if there is not much competition or move down if there is stronger competition with higher calculated ad scores.

Ad Auction is when Google decides which ad to show in the list and its position / rank in the order. Ad rank determines if the advertisement is eligible to be shown or not. As shown in the picture above, it calculates the bid amount and the auction time ad quality. It is recalculated every time the ad is eligible for auction.

Three things that one can do to get a higher rank is
- focus on relevant ad exentions. Be sure that they are actually helping and this can be determined through tracking. If its generating clicks, stands out, etc.

- Improve your quality score. This is the most crucial part.

- Unique landing pages. This gains your customers attention and influences brand name and positioning.
