MKTG 3345 - Week 11 - Referral Spam!
In Google Analytics this week we went over the concept of referral spam. This is a concept that is directly associated with website traffic. What referral spam consists of is fake traffic to a website by a bot. It is a hit generated by a program or bot instead of a real human who interacted with your site. These fake referring key words, domains, and events pollute site analytics with wrong data. This includes fake page views, organic traffic, and virtual page views. Referral spam puts data security at risk.

How one can avoid Referral spam is through blocking URL's, custom filters etc. Blocking the referrer used by spam bot, block the IP address used by bot, block the IP address range being used, block the user agents that were used, and block the spam referrer through custom advanced filter. What I thought was cool is that Google analytics has a bot filtering feature.
